P3 - Multiplatform Distribution Methods

Introduction

For this report, I will be looking into how most radios are distributed and how they do it in such a way.

Types of Distributions

There are multiple ways for people to distribute their radio and they are: DAB (Digital Audio Broadcasting), AM (), FM ()

DAB

This type of radio station is distributed in a way that uses 0's and 1's of a computer. This is then sent into a transmitter that distributes the signal via airwaves, which afterwards is decoded by a digital radio receiver.

AM

AM radio is another way to broadcast and it used amplitude modulation transmissions to distribute radio. This was the first way of distributing radio and is still used to this day worldwide and was first developed in the 1900s. The difference between AM and FM is that AM is cheaper to transmit radios.

FM

FM radio is the second way to distribute radio via frequency. It used frequency modulation and was invented in 1933. It allows for higher quality radio be distributed in far distances compared to AM radio, but of course it comes with a higher cost.

Internet

When a radio distributes this way, it is distributed digitally rather than radio signals. This allows for studios to reach more of it's listeners as most people use the internet to access media. This can be setup easily by making your own website and all the listeners need to do is input their website on a search engine. This can be somewhat of a downside since to make people aware of it it would need to be advertised somewhere to bring its awareness.

Absolute Radio Classic Rock

This radio station distributes via Internet since it is easier to broadcast to everyone worldwide and can be recorded live easily. Because the radio is distributed digitally, it allows for people to listen to it on almost every device which also allows them to reach more people without restricting them to only one option. Not only do they offer just music, but also chats with comedians and other famous people that appear on the show to bring the interest of different people.

Absolute Radio Classic Rock offers Live recordings and the option to Catch up. They included both options so that it makes different case scenarios more suited based on what the person is doing. For example, if a person would chose to listen to what is Live they can be offered with something new everyday without the need of them to interact with any of their devices. This scenario can be seen when people are on the road or when they are perhaps doing chores and liven up the mood. The other option of Catching up allows people to come back on whatever they have missed when they weren't able to listen to it at the time. This can be seen when people are busy at work or are in a place where their main focus is somewhere else.  This also gives the audience the option to listen back to segments about people they like e.g. an interview with a celebrity as they will have to option online or on the app to hear set segments from the shows. With this explained, this allows for people to not worry too much on if they missed anything and can always keep hands free if they are mean't to focus on one thing.
