P2 - Research into radio station
Absolute Radio Classic ROCK is a radio station airing in the UK, with the purpose of playing classic rock radio non-stop with the owner of the radio station being Bauer radio. Their target audience is adults from the age of 25 - 30+ as most of them would like to listen to some classics which they have listened before. They air every day with the radio station playing classic hits from 10pm to 6am and later on airing some popular classic rockers in the other hours. The purpose of the radio is to be a non-profit radio station and with a purpose to entertain.
Presenters
The radio station has a hefty number of presenters with them being with some of them being Dave Berry, Frank Skinner and Jason Manford. They don't appear every day, but they have a set schedule with Jason only appearing every Sunday with the purpose of telling jokes in the morning and with Frank only showing up on Saturdays with the same purpose of being a comedian. The main reason they have probably chosen to have their bigger stars on a weekend, may be down to the fact the listener may be more likely to listen at a weekend instead of weekly. Most listners would have more free time then also and with people like Frank Skinner being on then they may be more inclined to listen then. Linking the presenters to the target audience, they would most likely be looking at a 25+ age range and a mainstreamer leaning as they are both know as popular comedians to the public.
Scheduling
The scheduling for the radio station is split into two categories, workdays and weekends. For the workdays schedule it always starts with classical music in the early morning with different songs being played, later after 6am on the radio stations it will mostly consist of presenters with some classic rock being played from time to time, and after 7pm it goes back to being only classical rock music till the morning. For the weekends the schedule consists of with starting the morning with classic rock, after 6am one of the comedians goes on the microphone and interact with the listeners, telling jokes and stories tin between the music and adverts, at lunch which then after that it will consist of classical music till the next day. With that in mind the radio does consist of mostly classical rock music with an example of one of them being Radar Love by Golden Earring or Whole lot of Rossie by AC/DC.
Weekly Listeners
The radio has a big chunk of people listening to it weekly with that number being 813,000 listeners from out of a 55,964,000-listener population which means that 2% of the listener population are listening to the radio weekly. Thinking about the target audience for this station, although it being under 1 million weekly listeners, it could still be classed as part of the mainstream for its genre, as they tend to play the most popular music from its genre.
